Board of Trustees
Martin Hum PhD, DHD - Chairman
Martin first made the connection between nutrition and health while studying agricultural zoology at University. Long before “you are what you eat” became the phrase on everyone’s lips, he saw at first hand how livestock farmers kept their animals healthy through understanding their nutritional needs. In exploring the effects of diet on human health, Martin experimented with macrobiotic and vegetarian diets and ran an organic smallholding in Wales for several years. When his civil service “day job” brought him to London in 1989, Martin decided to train as a nutritional therapist with the College of Dietary Healing. This combined a modern, science-based approach with an understanding of naturopathic and homeopathic philosophies and traditional Chinese medicine.
After running a successful nutritional therapy clinic in central London for twelve years, Martin began to concentrate more on writing and editing work and has contributed articles to Optimum Nutrition magazine since 1999. Martin was invited to become a fellow of the ION in 2003 and joined the Board of Governors in January 2009. He was elected Chairman in 2010.
