Modules – Year One
- Study Skills – Guidance for students in the development of effective study methods, learning and research skills, which are fundamental for completing the course.

- Biochemistry – Looking at important biochemical reactions and pathways to gain an understanding of how nutrition works at a cellular level.
- Clinical Analysis – An introduction to the ION method of analysis: looking at a client’s health in relation to diet and lifestyle, then designing a nutritional programme to meet their specific needs.
Modules – Year Two
- Pathology – Looking at the progression of disease states in the body and nutritional protocols for treatment.
- Disordered Physiology – What affects the proper functioning of the body?
How we succeed or fail in adapting to stress, and how nutrition can contribute to problems and solutions.
- Biochemical Tests – What can we test and how? Familiarisation with a broad range of tests available to nutritional therapists, and understanding when to use them and how to interpret results.
- Therapeutic Nutrition – This module studies the application of nutrition in a therapeutic manner, both through food and nutritional supplementation.
- Research – Project work enables students to become competent in sourcing material and analysing findings.
- Clinical Practice – Consultation practice in the ION Training Clinic plus written and practical casework with your personal tutor.
Modules – Year Three
- Phytotherapy – This module explores the therapeutic application of a broad range of plant foods and plant-derived nutrients, supplements and herbs.
- Sports Nutrition – Exercise has major benefits to health, but intensive training and competition can also be a great strain on the body. This module explores the nutritional needs of individuals engaged in regular physical exercise, from ‘keeping fit’ to high level competitive sport
- Practice Management – What are the practical skills needed for setting up and succeeding in business? This module encourages students to think pragmatically about how they intend to build up a business and provides opportunities to develop the skills required for delivering successful presentations.
- Dissertation – Students are required to produce a dissertation in the form of a literature review. It provides an opportunity to explore in depth a subject which you find interesting.
- Clinical Practice – Provides progression from simple, safe clinical practice to being an effective practitioner in the complementary health field, capable of providing appropriate support for all clients.
* The course meets the requirements of the NTC Core Curriculum and is being continuously developed and updated. Some modules and lectures may therefore be subject to change.
