This lively food education and tasting day will provide you with a wealth of knowledge and guidance regarding children’s allergies and atopic conditions such as eczema, asthma and rhinitis.

It is reported that worldwide, approximately 1 in 8 children have asthma, and 1 in 13 have eczema.  This course takes a look at the immune system, why allergies develop, how to prevent them, taking a functional approach in tackling allergies, meal planning, substitutions when cooking and nutritional support.

What will I learn?

By the end of this course you will have:

  • An overview of the allergies and their development in children, the role of the immune system
  • An overview of the signs and symptoms of different types of food reactions – how to test for different food reactions.
  • A look at the research regarding development of allergies and how they can be prevented by taking action during pregnancy and in the early years
  • A functional look at underlying imbalances that may increase the risk of allergies developing
  • A closer look at common atopic conditions and how to address these with diet and nutrition – eczema, asthma, rhinitis, oral allergy syndrome, hayfever
  • A deeper understanding of the common allergen foods, how to substitute in recipes, how to ensure the diet is healthy and balanced even when excluding food groups
  • An increased knowledge of the state of current related research and referenced material for those wanting more technical information.
  • Opportunity to taste-test a variety of the foods discussed and to explore different options for meal planning including packed lunches
  • Tips for families when eating out, travelling, parties and meals away from home for those with food reactions
  • A selection of recipes and creative solutions for incorporating dietary suggestions.

Who will teach this course?

Christine Bailey is a well- known nutritionist, chef and author of over 13 recipe and health books including Go Lean Vegan. 

 


 

How will I be taught?

Christine will explain key principles at the same time as sharing dishes for participants to sample. Participants will be able to taste many of the foods and products discussed; be able to explore the benefit of using different foods and nutrients and be able to ask questions to the speaker to better understand principles and practice.

Space is limited to 26 participants. You will be provided with an educational resource that outlines key principles and relevant foods; recipes for dishes/products made on the day and other favourites.

Materials will be provided electronically approximately two weeks before the course. In order to reduce our global footprint, hard copies of materials will not be provided on the day. Delegates are welcome to bring the materials on electronic devices; print and bring the materials or take notes and refer to the electronic versions at a later date. Please note if you book less than 14 working days before the course you may have to wait a few days to receive the link to materials. If you book less than 5 working days before the course or on the day, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the link until after the course.

PLEASE NOTE: Education research demonstrates that participants learn most when they focus on the speaker and write their own short personalised notes rather than writing on the materials provided. We therefore encourage participants to use any longer materials provided eg powerpoints as reference materials when home and there is no need to print them all for the day. We encourage participants to think in advance about the key questions you would like answered by the day and for you to tailor your learning, questioning and note taking to address these.

  • If registering as a student, ID proof will be required on the day. Failure to bring proof will result in the full price of the event being invoiced
  • Price includes drink and light refreshments throughout the day. Lunch is not provided but there is a fantastic selection of cafes and restaurants within a 5 minute walk as well as a range of independent and high street shops and attractive outdoor spaces, including a section along the River Thames.
