CPD course for professionals

Many health practitioners know that educating their clients and preparing a health programme is often not enough to motivate them to make changes in their diet and lifestyle.

The only way to help people change is for them to be motivated internally.

This one day course will show you how to use Motivational Interviewing (MI) - one of the most powerful behaviour change methods available today to health professionals.

Who will teach?

Natascha Van Zyl is a Naturopath and Senior Lecturer in Health, Human Biology and Psychology.

She specializes in Psychobiological Medicine and Behaviour Change, and has over twenty years’ experience of working in healthcare and education.

How will I be taught?

This is a highly practical day.  You will be invited to experience MI for yourself and have an opportunity to develop your skills.  The day will include short sessions of lectures to establish key concepts and scientific underpinnings followed by lots of practice through case study exercises, group work and discussions, personal reflection and discussion.

Space is limited to 35 participants. You will be provided with essential information, practical tips and take home resources to help quickly implement learning from the course into your work.

Materials will be provided electronically approximately two weeks before the course. If you book less than 5 working days before the course or on the day, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the link until after the course. ION will provide any materials needed for group work on the day, but not other materials.

PLEASE NOTE: Education research demonstrates that participants learn most when they focus on the speaker and write their own short personalized notes rather than writing on the materials provided. We therefore encourage participants to use them as reference materials when home and there is no need to print them all for the day. We encourage participants to think in advance about the key questions you would like answered by the day and for you to tailor your learning, questioning and note taking to address these.
