By the end of the course participants will have:

  • A deeper understanding of what nutrients may be lacking - how they can be incorporated and where and what type of supplementation may be necessary
  • Learnt how to feed children, the elderly and athletes on plant- based diets and what additional nutrients these different groups require
  • Learnt how to meal plan for families and individuals to include healthy proteins, fats and carbs

  • A look at the macros - how to balance protein, fats and carbs on a plant- based diet
  • A look at nutrients - what nutrients may be low and what are the best food sources
  • Laboratory testing to check for deficiencies: An overview

11.45 – 13.00

  • Plant- based diets for children and teenagers, the elderly and athletes - additional considerations for each group
  • How to create a balanced and healthy diet - meal planning in practice. Key foods to include

 

13.45– 15.30

  • Kitchen equipment for special diets e.g. raw food diets
  • Supplements for vegans, superfoods and new foods for the vegan sector – what to look for and what to avoid
  • Q & A

Who will teach?

Christine Bailey PGCE, MSc, mBANT, CNHC, MIFM

Christine is an award-winning nutritionist, chef and author of over 14 recipe and health books, including “Go Lean Vegan” – a functional medicine recipe book for plant-based eating. She regularly appears in the media and runs a successful practice in Berkshire and London. She lectures on nutrition at BSc and MSc level and presents at national conferences and events on a wide range of health and nutrition topics. Christine runs a range of cookery days on healthy eating and how best to implement specific dietary approaches.

 


 

How will I be taught?

Christine will explain key principles of functional nutrition and plant-based diets.  Participants are not expected to have trained in nutrition to attend but the course will use some technical language and assume some knowledge. Recommendations may include testing or safe supplementation guidelines. Participants will be able to ask questions to Christine to better understand principles and practice. You will be provided with essential information, practical tips and take-home resources
