CPD course for professionals

Many clients struggle to change their eating habits, despite knowing what needs to be done.

Health Professionals know that educating a client and preparing a health programme is not enough to motivate them to make changes in their lifestyle and diet.  Supporting clients to change their behaviour can sometimes be a real challenge.

What will I learn?

By the end of this course you will have:

  • A deeper and more systematic understanding of clients’ possible drivers and motivations
  • A greater appreciation of how to use various behaviour change models to develop recommendations
  • An overview of motivational interviewing and considered its application to various case examples.
  • A greater awareness of additional strategies (Motivational Interviewing, Neuro-linguistic programming, Psychoneuroimmunology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and know where to access further training possibilities in these areas
  • Considered what being a responsible practitioner means and the importance of reflection, maintaining professional boundaries and know when to refer to others

How will I be taught?

This is a highly practical day. The day will include short sessions of lectures to establish key concepts and scientific underpinnings followed by lots of practice through case study exercises, group work and discussions, personal reflection and discussion.

Space is limited to 35 participants. You will be provided with essential information, practical tips and take home resources to help quickly implement learning from the course into your work.

Materials will be provided electronically approximately two weeks before the course. If you book less than 5 working days before the course or on the day, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the link until after the course. ION will provide any materials needed for group work on the day, but not other materials.

PLEASE NOTE: Education research demonstrates that participants learn most when they focus on the speaker and write their own short personalized notes rather than writing on the materials provided. We therefore encourage participants to use them as reference materials when home and there is no need to print them all for the day.
