So what are the merits or detriments of a ketogenic diet - when it is applicable and for how long? And could alternating between the two be the best approach?

Course Description 

What will I learn?

This day aims to give lots of practical ideas and advice. By the end of the course participants will have: 

  • A clear understanding of how to deliver a low GL diet 
  • A clear understanding on how to deliver a high fat, ketogenic diet 
  • Knowledge on all the factors that trigger autophagy 
  • Knowledge on the situations in which going ketogenic or triggering autophagy is beneficial 
  • Knowledge of the different strategies for switching between glucose and ketone based metabolism 
  • A clear understanding on how to monitor glucose and ketones in blood, urine and breath

How will I be taught?

Patrick will explain key principles and answer questions.  Participants will be able to explore the benefit of using different foods and nutrients and be able to ask questions to the speaker to better understand principles and practice. Technical language may be used at times.  

Space is limited to 50 participants. You will be provided with an educational resource that outlines key principles and relevant foods; recipes for dishes/products made on the day and other favourites. 

Materials will be provided electronically approximately two weeks before the course.

Who will teach this course?

Patrick Holford BSc, DipION, FBANT, NTCRP

Patrick Holford is a leading spokesman on nutrition and founder of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition and Food for the Brain Foundation. He is the author of 40 books, translated into over 30 languages, including his latest book The Hybrid Diet, co-authored with award-winning medical journalist Jerome Burne.
