By the end of this course you will have gained:
This course is aimed at professionals and is not intended for members of the public. It is an intensive three day course with clinical case discussions requiring delegates to be able to contribute and take part from a professional perspective. Professionals who are themselves living with and beyond cancer who may be considering attending this course, are recommended to wait until they are through active treatment and not whilst undergoing treatment.
Catherine Zollman is medical director of Penny Brohn Cancer Care and a GP in Bristol. She is the cancer lead for Bristol clinical commissioning group and an honorary lecturer at the University of Bristol.
Marie Polley holds a BSc in Biomedical Sciences, a PhD in molecular carcinogenesis and is a Reiki Master of 18 years. She has worked in cancer cell biology at Imperial College, as a Research Fellow at Breast Cancer Haven, and as a Senior Lecturer in Health Sciences and Research at the University of Westminster.
Carol Granger is a Registered Nutritional Therapist practicing in London and West Sussex, and a researcher at the University of Westminster, where she completed research for a professional doctorate on the practice of nutritional therapy for people affected by cancer.
The course will include short sessions of lectures to establish key concepts and scientific underpinnings and help appraise the state of current research, followed by clinical case study exercises, group work and discussions to consolidate learning and encourage critical thinking. Space is limited to 35 participants. You will be provided with essential information, practical tips and take home resources to help quickly implement learning from the course into your work.
Materials will be provided electronically approximately two weeks before the course. If you book less than 5 working days before the course or on the day, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the link until after the course. ION will provide any materials needed for group work on the day, but not other materials.
PLEASE NOTE: Education research demonstrates that participants learn most when they focus on the speaker and write their own short personalized notes rather than writing on the materials provided. We therefore encourage participants to use them as reference materials when home and there is no need to print them all for the day. We encourage participants to think in advance about the key questions you would like answered by the day and for you to tailor your learning, questioning and note taking to address these.
Participants can choose one of two routes for this course depending on their qualification and whether they wish to have certified recognition for their learning:
CPD option
This route should be chosen by participants who want to demonstrate that they have attended the three day course. This route provides ION CPD certificate of attendance for 15hrs learning and has also received 15hrs CPD with The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT).
NTEC certified option
In addition to the benefits of the above, this also provides Nutritional Therapy Education Commission (NTEC) certification.
