Job title:  External Examiner

Location:  Home-based (with some travel to Richmond)

Contract:  Self-employed

Salary:  Competitive remuneration

The Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION) is seeking two external examiners from academic year 2018/2019 for four years of all modules at Undergraduate Credit Levels 5 and 6 and Postgraduate Credit Level 7, and the conferment of all final ION awards.

External examiners ensure the fair and equitable application of ION’s regulations on credit accumulation, and the course-specific regulations for each award, in decisions on the award of qualifications to students.  This includes decisions on the classification of awards (where relevant) and decisions on exclusions.  The external examiners take part in all work of the Progression and Award Board including the award of intermediate awards.

ION offers extensive training and induction for external examiners and support is also provided by the Head of Courses and Dean.

The Institute expects external examiners to attend ION in Richmond a minimum of one Board per year and are required to report annually after the last relevant Board.  However, they may submit additional reports at any time during the session.

External examiners are appointed to provide subject area expertise.  The examiner should have experience of modular or credit accumulation schemes and expertise in assessment.  Lack of prior experience of external examining does not preclude an approval so long as other examiners on the relevant board do have such experience.

Commencement date November 2019 for a period of 4 years.

To apply for this role please complete the attached application form in full and submit it to [email protected] by midday Friday 21st December 2018.
