What types of online CPD courses does ION run?

ION runs live online courses for practitioners and final year students looking to explore how nutrients, other foods and lifestyle factors influence the function of the body and to apply findings in a person – centred manner that recognises individuals’ unique differences.

ION’s courses aim to present the latest research findings, debates and approaches around different topics. The courses provide CPD at level 6/7 (i.e. final year undergraduate/masters level) and focus on helping practitioners to critically evaluate material and concepts presented and to apply them in complex settings. The courses are designed based on best practice for online learning. In practice, this means that presentations are short and interspersed with various interactive elements such as individual exercises and Q &A sessions. Regular review and recap sessions are also included.

Live online courses where appropriate will also be offered as on-demand recordings.

What topics do your online courses cover?

ION runs a rolling programme of online courses covering gut health, hormonal health, cancer,  children’s health, autoimmune and immune health, brain/mental health amongst other areas.

How can I hear about upcoming courses and recordings?

Please sign up to receive notifications at https://www.ion.ac.uk/cpd-courses

What is the cost of your live online courses and what is included?

Please see pricing and timings information on our website for specific courses. In general our live courses include 5-hours’ worth of training and materials that can be downloaded. You will also be able to view the recording for 90 days after it has been made available. ION edits all live footage to remove breaks and chat or other text from the day.

I am a student/ION alumni - do I get discounts for live online courses?

ION’s live courses are sold at one price due to limited options on our online hosting platform. Many live courses will be available to view on-demand at slightly lower prices.

Do ION’s live online and on-demand courses provide CPD hours or points as part of professional training requirements?

ION’s courses provide CPD at level 6/7 (i.e. final year undergraduate/masters level). However, precisely what a practitioner should log will depend on how they have personally used the material and for what duration; what their professional body requires; and what specific recognition or certification has been granted for a particular course. You can find out what recognition or accreditation has been granted on individual course programmes.

Participants who have taken part in a live online course from beginning to end will receive an automatic email confirmation from ION that they have participated in the whole course, which usually includes 5 hours of training. ION is not able to confirm full attendance if the course has been viewed on-demand or where the online platform recognises that a participant has not been active for the full course duration.  Participants who have not managed to listen to the whole day live or who have listened on-demand may still log their CPD for the hours of training they have participated in, depending on their professional body’s requirements. However, ION is not able to confirm that someone has participated in the full course. ION do not issue certificates for either live online or on demand courses.

If you are a nutritional therapist and registered with BANT, the current BANT guidelines are for a minimum of 30 hours CPD annually, of which a minimum of 8 of these hours must be active CPD. Individual ION course programmes make it clear if they carry BANT recognition. Courses that provide BANT CPD hours will appear on BANT’s drop down menu of listed activities. If a live course or on-demand course does not have BANT recognition, you can still log it as ‘Active’ CPD on BANT’s website based on the number of hours you have participated in. Use the ‘Enter my own activity’ and choose training/education. It is the responsibility of the practitioner to be accurately record their viewing hours. I did not receive a confirmation email for the course I paid and booked for. Can you help?

Confirmations are automatically sent out at the time of booking via our online webinar platform ‘Big Marker’. Please in the first instance check your junk mail for Big Marker emails (and save the sender for future purchases). If you still cannot find your confirmation, please contact [email protected].

Will your online courses be available to view on demand?

Many courses will be available to view on demand roughly two weeks after being run live. You will have access to the recordings for 90 days and can download associated materials. ION edits all live footage to remove breaks and chat or other text from the day.

I have bought a course on-demand but made a mistake in purchasing it. Can I have a refund?

When you pay for an on-demand recording you are automatically given access to the recordings and materials. Refunds are therefore not available.

I have not managed to watch the recording within your 90-day viewing period. May I have an extension?

ION’s recordings are only held online for a limited time because we wish to ensure that our courses remain up to date. If the recording will still be available for another 30 days from when you make your request, you will be able to have one extension, subject to a £25 administration fee. Please email [email protected].

I bought a ticket for a live online course, but I cannot now make it. Can I get a refund?

For live online courses which are being recorded, you will still have access to the recordings for 90 days and can download associated materials. Refunds are therefore not available.

For live online courses which are not being recorded, a 14-day cooling off period applies. The cooling off period begins on the date after you made your purchase. Please email all requests to [email protected] stating clearly the full name and email address that you used for booking and the title of the course. If a refund is agreed, you will receive a full refund, minus a 10% administration fee. Please note your right to a refund is waived if you have already been sent any links to digital materials for the course. Refunds may take up to three weeks to process.

I paid for a live online course but there was a technical problem/ION had to cancel the course due to unforeseen circumstances. What is ION’s policy?

Depending on the circumstances and the nature of the course, ION will look to re-schedule the course or record it with the speaker and make it available on demand. If it will only be available on demand, you will receive a refund for any price difference between live online attendance and on-demand viewing.

I have attended/watched one of your courses, but I am dissatisfied. What should I do?

ION welcomes all course feedback so please do get in touch with us at [email protected].

Unless a course has failed to deliver its stipulated learning outcomes, refunds will not be given.

What is ION’s position on Coronavirus (Covid-19) and running face-to-face courses?

ION is monitoring daily the government’s guidance on Covid-19 and reviewing its policies across all areas of business accordingly. We are only delivering online CPD courses for the remainder of the 2022/23 academic year. ION will re-assess whether it is appropriate to run face-to-face courses again as and when government guidelines permit this as an option.
