BSc (Hons) Nutritional Therapy

Undergraduate NT Intro

  • Ready to become a fully qualified registered nutritional therapist?

Founded in 1984 by Patrick Holford with the support of twice Nobel Prize winner Professor Linus Pauling, the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION) is an independent higher education institution and education charity that has been successfully educating nutritional therapists for over 35 years, and is one of the most respected training bodies of its kind in Europe.

Our undergraduate degree course, the BSc (Hons) Nutritional Therapy, is developed from our long-standing and well-respected diploma course (DipION Nutritional Therapy). It combines the latest theoretical knowledge from the science of nutrition with “real world” clinical training. During this course, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the role that nutrition plays in human health and wellbeing. This course has been enhanced to degree level in response to student demand for a higher award and the requirement by the professional body for nutritional therapists to be qualified to undergraduate honours degree level. As an added benefit, having a degree also gives you increased recognition for the work involved.

Because we understand the need for flexibility, our BSc (Hons) Nutritional Therapy is part-time and offered in both campus and distance learning modes, so that you can tailor it to work around your other commitments. Regardless of how you study, we will ensure you are practice-ready by the time you graduate with us.

The undergraduate degree will prepare you to become a fully qualified, registered nutritional therapist and is one of our flagship training courses, validated by the University of Portsmouth and accredited by the professional body for nutritional therapy’s education commission.

Already qualified and looking to upgrade?

If you are already a qualified nutritional therapist, you have the option – depending on your amount of recognised prior learning (RPL) – to complete the degree within one and half years part-time using certified credits from your previous training and/or experiential learning from your clinical practice.
