Overview

This CPD course...

  • is delivered: an online on-demand-video from a live course
  • is for: Nutritional therapy practitioners, nutritionists, dieticians, naturopaths, other health care providers and final year nutrition students interested in applying functional medicine approaches to health and well-being (i.e. exploring how nutrients, other foods and lifestyle factors influence the function of the body and how to apply findings in a person–centered manner that recognises individuals’ unique differences.)
  • is with: Alex Manos
  • spans: 5 hours recording time
  • provides: BANT CPD 5 hours, NNA CPD 5 hours

This course will offer a deep dive in to all things SIBO. The underlying causes and risk factors, symptomatology, testing options and test interpretation, limitations with the testing options, as well as therapeutic interventions. The course will cover each of these topics for each of the following: SIBO, IMO, hydrogen sulphide, and SIFO.

The focus of the course is to give the practitioner a comprehensive understanding of SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO, and give them more confidence when supporting clients with suspected SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO, for example when to test and when to treat. How to enhance our accuracy of interpreting SIBO test results and ‘diagnosing’ SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO.

SIBO, and in particular IMO, is an evolving area of research. Practitioners are often concerned about using typically prescribed doses of antimicrobials - could there be another way to help our clients resolve their symptoms? The course provides practitioners with an up to date understanding of SIBO/IMO/SIFO/hydrogen sulphide and thus provides a wide range of potential interventions.

This course will cover everything a practitioner needs to know in order to successfully support a client with suspected SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO. It will start by exploring the signs and symptoms of SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO, and the conditions that are associated with SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO. It will then cover everything you need to know about testing for SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO including what’s the best way to test for SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO. And how to interpret SIBO breath tests (it may not be as simple as we think).

What is the best test for SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO? What are the best anti-microbial to use for each condition (SIBO, IMO, H2S, SIFO).  What is the best diet for SIBO? When should I retest?

Finally, it will cover everything a practitioner needs to know to structure a therapeutic health plan.

What will I learn?

By the end of the recording you will be able to:

  • Create impactful programmes that will allow your clients greater freedom with their diet while focusing on the true underlying imbalances creating their symptoms.
  • Apply new research findings in your approach to resolving SIBO/IMO/H2S/SIFO. These can be a totally different approach to the common protocols being recommended.
  • Choose tests and supplements with greater confidence and help your client understand your rationale behind these, thus providing your client with a greater sense of reassurance and confidence in the program.
  • Avoid potential pitfalls such as over-diagnosing your clients with SIBO.
  • Be more confident in supporting your clients with complex chronic gastrointestinal conditions.
