Celebrating 35 years of being the home of nutritional therapy education

    Established 1984

This builds on The Institute for Optimum Nutrition’s (ION) long-standing experience of training Nutritional Therapists, having delivered internationally renowned nutritional therapy training Since 1984. At ION, you learn how to use the principles of personalised and functional medicine to inform nutrition provision within your current and future practice. We combine the latest theoretical and applied knowledge from nutrition, science, and the psychology of behaviour change to help you build an in-depth understanding of the role that nutrition and lifestyle plays in human health and wellbeing.

A graduate diploma is a higher education professional-oriented award at the same level as the final year of a Bachelor’s Honours degree, but with a more focused scope than a master’s degree. The graduate diploma distinguishes itself by offering a high level of specialisation, focused on entry to the nutrition and lifestyle medicine profession.

The Integrative Functional Nutrition graduate diploma, the first of its kind, is designed exclusively for practising, experienced allied healthcare and medical graduates, and for those with extensive practice experience who want to specialise in integrating personalised nutrition and lifestyle advice in their current practice. Based on the philosophy and principles of functional medicine, the course is practice-focused with learning centred on case histories and reflection on student-led fieldwork.

In each of the modules, you will explore dietary, nutraceutical and lifestyle approaches to optimising health. You will learn how to appraise the tools available to collect and interpret client data, and elicit behaviour change. Learning is shared and discussed with peers and tutors in online group seminars. You will contextualise your learning within your own practice and the boundaries set by your professional bodies/regulators, identifying future opportunities once qualified, to enhance your professional practice.

At ION, we also understand the need for flexibility. Our distance learning graduate diploma is offered full-time and part-time, allowing you to manage your study alongside work, family and other commitments.
